The cape was once
teaming with game of all species. Wildebeest, Zebra, Eland,
Kudu, Bontebok, Giraffe, Buffalo, Lion, Cheetah, Leopards,
Elephants, Hippos, Crocodiles, Many of these animal were
destroyed by early inhabitants of the Cape The result is
that very few naturally occurring game reserves occur in the
Western Cape. There has been a recent drive top developed game
ranching in the western Cape with limited success. The main
reason for this is overstocking of land which has low carrying
capacity. There is however ample opportunity for anyone
applying the correct norms and developing a game farm in the
Western Cape, Combined with tourism., game farming can be a
lucrative business.
